Britt’s Pick: Yael Designs’ Opal Tesserae Necklace

Post by PinkDiamond »

It's hard enough to capture the beauty of gemstones in general, but when it comes to opals it's impossible to capture their beauty in still shots, so I wish they had given us some video clips of these so we could get a bigger 'fix' of these opals to feed our addiction, but this will have to do. ;)

"October is more than halfway over (how?!), and there are way too many wonderful opal treasures out there to fit in a month’s worth of digital jewelry content.

But let’s give it our best, shall we? With this pretty pendant from the San Francisco–based Yael Designs, we touch on a style that combines a series of smaller opals to create an absolutely gorgeous—and very everyday wearable—look.

The necklace comes from Yael’s Tesserae collection, which was covered on JCK by our editor-in-chief Victoria Gomelsky in May. At that time, the new line was set to make its debut at the upcoming Luxury show in Las Vegas, bursting with an array of colorful gemstones arranged just like its namesake, much like a mosaic.

While the opal piece pictured here shares those characteristics, its mosaic is a softer one, with a series of oval and marquise shapes and fewer square and emerald-cut gems (save for the baguette diamonds hugging its sides). The look is floral with a glitter and a glow, like holiday poinsettias blooming in October. The point being, this is a jewel anyone would wear long after their October birthday, past the holidays, into spring and summer— basically, forever.

With an accessible price—the Tesserae line was designed with more bang for the buck in mind—this piece would be just right for the self-purchasing customer, and those buying gifts for an opal-loving recipient will have a memorable present in hand here.

If one really wanted to make a big splash, there’s a pair of matching earrings (shown above) to make a set—a pairing that would really make heads turn. The total price for the set clocks in at under ... "

I think we are going to be seeing more opals as they work their way thru design lines.
