this is 1 of the best videos about opal patterns -- they show multiple patterns with quite good examples (in most cases) ;) and they also explain how the patterns are created.

Thanks I missed this somewhere in the 800 years, whatever, of videos Youtube uploads every day. Watch it here even to help Our "attention" rating. The nomenclature for opal is extensive as they all blend together in the middle. Destructive testing by the Halloran brothers showed it was carbon or irons in the black opals from the Peacock Mine. More interested in why some craze and others are gem grade to start. Dried rough for the win.

Thanks for posting another good one, OS, I really enjoyed that. It also occurred to me that anyone wanting the full link to the videos can just click the YT prompt on the video and it will take them there to view it where the entire link resides. ;)
