Nomad’s Launches ‘Gems for Ukraine’ Benefit Auction
Colored gemstone wholesaler Gems by Nomad’s has launched a four-day auction of stones, with 100 percent of proceeds donated to help aid Ukraine.
"New York—Colored gemstone supplier Gems by Nomad’s doesn’t want the ongoing war in Ukraine to slip from people’s minds, especially since so much help is still needed.
So, the company is holding an online auction of gems that started today, Aug. 24, a date that marks both Ukraine’s Independence Day and six months since Russia invaded.
The founders of Nomad’s are originally from Ukraine. The self-taught gem cutters got their start with Ukrainian topaz and heliodor beryl from the country’s Volodarsk-Volynskii mine after the fall of the Soviet Union.
Though the company has expanded globally, its founders still have friends and family in the country.
“We condemn the Russian state’s unjust, brutal, criminal act of aggression toward Ukraine,” Nomad’s said in an Instagram post about the auction. “The horrific atrocities there have caused immense suffering, fear, and heartbreak.”
“Unfortunately, as time passes, this war fades out of the front lines of the news; people in the free world get fatigued and habituated to it just as the destruction and need for help grows.
“We want to renew the effort of charity and compassion,” Nomad’s said.
Gems for Ukraine is offering 13 items. Fittingly, that includes three heliodor beryls from the Volodarsk-Volynskii mine.
There is also a 3.63-carat pair of tanzanites, a 10.11-carat blue-green tourmaline, and a 72.40-carat amethyst stone, among others.
The company will donate 100 percent of proceeds to United24, launched by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy as the primary venue for collecting charitable donations in support of Ukraine.
The auction will run online through Sunday, Aug. 28. ... "
