Maw Sit Sit's look-alike cousin

Post by PinkDiamond »

An article from Pala said that at the Hong Kong jewelry and gem fair last year there was a lot of green material being sold as Maw Sit Sit.

However, this material is from Pakistan, not Burma where Maw Sit Sit was always known as a single source gemstone.

In spring, at Baselworld, a gemologist was asked to look into the stone by a seller who was mining it.

Researchers sampled the material and found it to be mainly calcium, unlike Maw Sit Sit which normally has very little calcium. These are calcium silicates that they say replaced the original material by metamorphism, therefore it's scarn with the name Sannan attached to it to show it's from Pakistan, so it's called Sannan-Skarn.

More information is said to be coming soon.

MSS is one of my favorites... That Sannan-Skarn may look similar but I wonder about hardness, etc...

Quartz, topaz and other clear rocks can look like diamonds but that doesn't mean they are as good...

I'm gonna have to Hunt some down now and test it out'
Too many beautiful distractions... https://twitter.com/burningems
