Its sure cold!

Post by Rockranger »

Canada in December can be cold, and this year it sure is bone chilling. In fact, 14 of the top 15 coldest places on Earth right now are in Canada.

Only one spot in Russia is beating out Canada, with much of the list comprised of spots in western Canada.

Yikes! That's awful, and it's hard to believe that's going on while we're in the 60's and even 70's at the end of December. I've slept with a couple of windows open over the past few nights, but this is not good, and it won't be a fun by New Year's eve and New Year's day since we're to be under the gun for severe weather both days because of it. We also had torrential rains for well over 24 hours last week that turned the spring into white water rapids, and had the creek rushing like it hasn't since last spring. I'm thanking God it wasn't snow since I'm hearing they got 6 to 9 feet of snow around Lake Tahoe, while we don't even need coats here, and won't for the rest of the week.

Incredible eh? ! I'm in between the Red deer and Edmonton area. We hit -40.6 without adding in a windchill yesterday. This morning -39 with a windchill of -44 and by sat -9c or 48F, go figure? Open windows and no jackets? couldn't open a window if tried, all frozen shut. Have a space heater going in the cold room pointed at the balcony doors just to be able to open it to let the dogs out to pee. wearing... my guess approx 50 more pounds in clothing just to go outside. Not sure if crazy or not to be living here anymore? Lmao!

You'll be ready when the Ice Age starts. Plan for the worst and be careful. There was a history behind the Native Guides escaping from the Donner Party being stuck, some of which may have been that whole top of the menu thing. They knew how it works in the starvation months from the slaving tribes on the SlaveTrail up & Down where I-5/ Hwy 97 runs today. Nomadic tribes managed to live out here to modern times & one of the tales was killing off the last of the giant red heads that came from the east.

I honestly never understood how people can live up on the frozen tundra, with such a short growing season and more cold than warmth. But the warm trend ended here, with is in the 50's at night, then 40's, and then this morning I woke up to a solid freeze, with it 18º outside, and a light dusting of snow, and the thermometer hasn't budged much all day, and it's now cooling off again. I don't know how you can do it Rock. I would be a walking popsicle if I lived up there.

it snowed 6 inches on us and froze solid, not evaporating too fast, but outside temps are in the 20 this week. Glad I dont have to mess with wood, but the propane tanks not making it thru this winter too without a refill.

I caught the news of the winds in Colorado with the wild fire. What blew me away was the foot of snow that hit the next day?? Crazy!
It's a roller coaster ride here last year with climate change. BC seems like it was every season. Fires, hear wave, floods and windstorms. Metro Vancouver had over 900 deaths heat related during the scorcher for a month.
