Well that bites, but it figures, doesn't it. What should be a cut and dried case can't be prosecuted because the lawyers don't see enough money in it, and of course the cops aren't interested in tracking down stolen tools, so they do nothing to help and then call it quits. Speckee's advice is probably best; they should always be in your son's possession, and guarded at all times. Sad but true. :?

They can't always be in my son's possession. That would require a truck and fork lift to transport them home every day.

too bad your son wasn't in Canada ... here if you have something of some one else"s it creates a "bailment" and you exert "common care" if you lose it you pay for it so your son's tools would have be covered under the shops insurance
