ARGGHHH Son's tools stolen

Post by kjsspot »

My 23 YO son was a service tech at a car dealership. They let him go in Dec. He had to have his own tools and toolbox. Common practice is that the dealerships provide transport for getting those tools there. When they let him go they said to let them know if he needed transport for his tools to go home. Sam said he'd try to land another job first, that way the new job would pick them up and save everyone time and $$. Then later they called and said he needed to come get them. AND they then refused to provide transport.

So finally he gets together transport, goes to get them, and they've been stolen... This is several thousand $$. Pretty big hit for an unemployed youngster. :(

If they were responsible for taking care of them, since they were always in their possession, maybe if you know any lawyers he can get some restitution out of them. That sucks big wind KJ, I'm so sorry to hear that. :o

We filed a police report. Sam's working on getting them an inventory/valuation list. He's also checking craig's list, ebay, and pawn shops. The manager is going to check into things on their end. If they don't file a claim, than we'll probably have to get a lawyer somehow.

Thanks. He's checking out a craigslist ad right now. I told him that if it IS his, make an excuse to go get money and then call the cops.

Why won't the car dealership's insurance reimburse? They had care and control.

Ya... Boggles my mind how one person can do that to another. How can one not care?

The manager is checking into it for us. We'll see what happens.

While his tools are in their care, on their premises, it's their responsibility. As a tradie myself I'd advise your young bloke to treat his tools like his missus. You may not agree all the time, but the last thing you want is another blokes hands on them ;)

That's what I thought. But they refuse to accept responsibility. The cops dropped the case, said there were no suspects or leads. The lawyers said, and I quote, "I'm not even remotely interested." And small claims court is $200 for a case I don't think we'll win. :/
