It could be from a lot of places but most of the contra luz I've seen comes from Mexico.

And welcome!

Can you get a shot of the dendrites thru the microscope? I'm with KJ and have only seen Contra Luz from Mexico on the market.

The dendrites can happen in the volcanic opal more than the sedimentary. The Wolo opal has contra luz like Mexican and Virgin Valley, eliminate the latter if it is commercially cut most likely. Looks like the Mexican as the E is faceted for beads to sell due to volume of rough available now.

The original owner said it came from Australia. I look at the gembox, of course there was several cabochon of White Australian opal in the box..but this slightly high dome opal of mine looks very different than other Australian opal (milky white with POC and flat cabochon). I think he accidentally put this contra luz in aussie opal :)

No NO there WAS Contr Luz from there too. I just assumed you knew it wasn't. The flat bottom made me think of that first actually.
