OK, worked. Now I will have to find something that actually stands out at that size. :) :) :)

Y'all even look good in B&W, and I'm glad Kurt was able to get his avatar up, and not surprised Chris changed his back since he's so shy.

I can see that yours is FA Kurt, but the avatars are so small it's hard to see detail or colors. Still, it's better than no avatars once you figure out how to get them down so small.

Also, thanks for correcting that KB thing KJ. I know KBs, but had no idea what a Kib was or if it was something new so I wrote K-whatever.

If anyone has trouble resizing their avatars, we might be able to assist. I'm not promising anything, but maybe we can help if you ping us. ;)

Actually I didn't have any problems at all (most unusual) as I am not the most savvy of computer users! Maybe there is hope for me yet....

I'm glad you had no problem uploading it Jenn, and I love your Scorpio. I'm like you, and if Chris wasn't handling the tech side, we wouldn't be here because I'm totally lost when it comes to computing. Just shows I was born back when the dinosaurs roamed, and have no business using them. On the other hand, at 2 years old my grandson was bringing the ipad to my daughter, with Skype already pulled up, saying he wanted to talk to grandma, so at least computer illiteracy doesn't run in the family.

Found a website that I wanted to share so you may reduce the kilobyte size of your avatar.

First, please make your avatar 90 x 90 pixels as Chris recommends. Then upload your pic on this website.

http://jpeg-optimizer.com/

The requirements for the forum avatar is 10kb.

In the field where it has the 'compression level,' I changed it to 99. This set the avatar I used at around 9kb.
(you can change the compression level to determine which is best and within forum requirements)

On the website, uncheck the 2nd box which resizes photos.

Then click on the 'optimize photo' button and it will compress your avatar photo.

Please right click, copy and paste your avatar onto your desktop.

Now you can upload your avatar using the forum uploader in your profile.

I hope this helps.

RR and I were mind-boggled on how to compress jpg photo files or without losing a lot of the detail in the image.

That information is a wonderful find gingie, thanks so much for posting it for us. I'm sure a lot of folks will find it useful, so maybe we should even break your post out into a sticky so it's always available. ;)

Thanks, Pink! I hope the tool on the website helps our fellow forum members.

I keep logging myself out of the forum by clicking on "Welcome to OpalholicAnonymous.com."

Chris, I love the entrance to the forum!! :) What kind of opal is posted at the entrance?
