Coool. Wont the Andamooka peel grains off while working it since it matrix sand? Do you only use the most opalised solid precious matrix to start with?

Thanks for the great comments, very close finished, just some small scratches to polish out and all done, the black eye is ferro actinolite from Western Australia, mined by Glen Archer, its sold as jade but is not a true nephrite BUT polishes AWESOME, I also cut some white Coober Pedy opal eyes but think the black looks better.

He's so cute! I love the black eyes, and I know you've got a good eye for matching up materials so I imagine the opals didn't have the same effect as the black stones do. Kudos, Michael!! It's simply adorable, and your work is impeccable.

Thanks for the great comments, I think the Coober pedy opal eyes would have looked good but the black jade gave more contrast, a picture showing how I carved the eye socket.
