Awesome. So could even be four if Michael submitted an entry. Fingers crossed for all entrants in this forum! Good Luck!
Re: Australian opal competition
Hi all, just found this after reading a message, both me and my wife Margie have joined, and we both entered the IOJDA again, 3 sections, a pic of my star I carved in the white Coober Pedy opal, not a problem posting it here as I did not enter this one, looks good in the pic but I don,t think it suited the opal, I done quite well in these awards in 2013 and did show my carving on social media and forums, nothing was said to me by the organizers, the rules state the judges decision is final, sounds like there were sore loosers.
Re: Australian opal competition
New here with Michael, great to find this is still active, in 2013 no judging sheets were given to the entrants, we were invited to the awards and would love to be there but work still gets in the way, I like Michael think the idea that the carvings not being seen before the awards was more to do with the entrants not wanting there entry's seen by opposition, how could the judges be influenced by photo's when they are judged side by side in the hand.

Welcome Margie nice photo Michael, did we see your other entries? Hint

Re: Australian opal competition
Welcome Margie and Michael! I love the star! I look forward to obtaining that skill level!
Glad a few of us entered, I think we are All friendly here, so it makes it more fun. I'm glad. Kj's finally made it Also!
This is exciting. Ok, for me it is... Maybe not to anyone that makes this a full time living at cutting opal, but I still consider myself a hobbyists and enjoy exploring this aspect of the hobby.
Too bad they don't youtube the award announcements and gala, that would be kinda cool. Some year I'll get to visit lightning ridge and I think this is a good event to keep on the list when I am old and traveling without kids. (love them dearly but not spending that much time in a plane with them anytime soon! )
Good luck everyone!

Re: Australian opal competition
Hey you two! Welcome to the new site. The judging is over now and we await word. Lightning Ridge Opal Festival posted to "tune into 2WEB tomorrow morning to listen to the live broadcast from the Lightning Ridge Opal Festival!" But they didn't say what time. Nor do I know if this is for the awards ceremony or if they'll just be at the ongoing festival broadcasting.
Hey Michael & Margie, the years that you won, how did you find out? Were you at the awards ceremony or did they contact you afterwards?
