Gold Coins
Nobody seems to want to start this subject, so I'll get it going.
These are several gold coins that I inherited from an uncle, along with a stack of silver dollars. The small hexagonal coin at the bottom is a "fractional"
50 cent from the California gold rush days.
Pic for size comparison of the 50 cent fractional.

Re: Gold Coins
Nice ones. All I've managed is some circulated silver in my life. It's what I hope to someday find with the detector I got way back when.

Whose face is represented on the coins? Looks like royalty, but I know the US never had a monarchy.

Re: Gold Coins
Lydia, I think they're supposed to represent Lady Liberty.
Re: Gold Coins
Those are awesome, and I'm glad you held on to your uncle's coins, Don. I like the fractional piece.
I like coin jewelry pieces, too.

Re: Gold Coins
Jan, due to a shortage of coins during the California gold rush, 3 or 4 private mints were minting these fractional coins.

Re: Gold Coins
I'm sure your coins are worth more cuz of their age than actual weight. They are very cool.

Re: Gold Coins
I have a few myself. A couple of them I think are counterfeits. Gold should not discolor, true? They are unscratched that is the only reason I havent tested them. Nice coins Jrock!

Re: Gold Coins
These were collected by my Uncle back in the late 40's and early 50's. I have no doubts that they are the real thing.
