Im posting my emerald cross, show & tell, this item has been a 'work in progress' since 2006, when the 1st stone was bought. As each stone was carefully bought for color, cut, clarity & origin, i placed the stones in a pleasing config to the eventual finished item pictured, the gold wire was upgraded to 1.2mm to reduce flex of the frame & reinforced for stability, the gold is 18kt. My jeweler & i had a good time doing this cross & even though the stones are med quality, they all add to the total of a neat item, fun to wear. All the stones are columbian & the total weight is just over 50cts-

Great to see that its not only me, who takes the time over years to get to a piece eventually.
Mine took only 3 years, but still.....

KKHK, the fact it took over a yrs time is a plus as to thought & finish of the item u r showing, u just have to lighten the background & light on the cross to get a more visual so we all can see-

OK, will try to get new pictures in the next few days.
I took the pictures, only with reflective light in mind.
Auburn is rather dark overall, but has a very bright orange reflecting back at the table.
And that was what I was looking at.

You posted some great stuff KJ, and that's a really unique carving Kurt. I like 'em all and it's getting harder and harder to pick a favorite photo of all that's been posted so far, and we're not even done yet!
That cross is definitely a favorite m76, but you have so many nice pieces it's hard to pick just one.
Here's a shot of a rainbow in a quartz sphere, that's likely caused by water content within the quartz. If I position the sphere properly the rainbow appears across the top as you walk by. I have a small collection of spheres, but this one that's over 30 years old is my favorite because of the interference caused by the water creating the rainbow effect.

Caused by water? Or internal fractures?
Tried to incorporate some in cabs before, and it always flaked off or dissipated.
Love the look of the effect.

I was told it was a tiny amount of water trapped inside, and yes, it's likely in a fracture; could even be a healed fracture I would imagine. That's what I was told back when I bought it, and I have heard that water can cause this so that's what I've always thought it was. Of course, people get stuff like that wrong all the time, so maybe the woman who sold it to me was wrong, and I have carried on with it. Either way, it's a special sphere because of it.
