Willy Wonka x Fossil Is the Golden Ticket for Whimsical Jewelry

Post by PinkDiamond »

Since Fossil is synonymous with watches, I put this in the watch category even though there's only one watch shown and the rest is cute jewelry. Check this out. I'm loving the ring. :)

"Fashion brand Fossil has brought the fantasy and wonder of the new movie Wonka to an array of fruit- and chocolate-themed jewels and accessories in the Willy Wonka x Fossil collection.

Opening this weekend, Wonka gives the backstory of the famous fictional candy maker Willy Wonka. Timothée Chalamet will bring teens, and most likely their families, flooding into theaters for the movie, written and directed by Paul King, who also created the popular Paddington films. Willy Wonka first appeared in Roald Dahl‘s 1964 classic novel Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, which has inspired multiple films and even a band.

“It was so much fun working on this project. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is one of my all-time favorite children’s books and movies,” says Cristina Platania, Fossil’s creative director. “As a creative, I believe in dreaming big and thinking outside of the box, so I love the quote from Willy Wonka that says ‘I am the maker of music, the dreamer of dreams.’”

The Willy Wonka x Fossil signet ring ($70) replicates the look of a Golden Ticket that entitles winners to a special Wonka factory tour.

Willy Wonka x Fossil includes two limited-edition watches: the Carraway, at $220, has a dial resembling a Wonka chocolate bar and a caseback etched with a Golden Ticket (the item that grants admission to Wonka’s factory), and the Raquel ($195), featuring a fruit-pattern leather strap with a Wonka quote on the caseback.

Special-edition jewelry pieces from the collaboration include a statement signet ring with a Golden Ticket design, for $70, and a $135 pendant filled with floating clear faceted crystals and a tiny bottle, inspired by Willy Wonka’s Fizzy Lifting Drink. There are also a set of five stud earrings ($145), a necklace ($155), and a bracelet ($145) that all feature five different fruit-shaped crystals to recall Wonka’s “lickable wallpaper.”

For those who want a handbag to go with their Wonka jewelry, Fossil has two options—a chocolate bar clutch, at $275, and a hand-beaded fruit bag ($295)—as well as a Golden Ticket key fob for $45.

The movie’s lickable wallpaper is paid homage by these fruit-themed earrings ($145), Fossil says.

Each piece is presented in a chocolate-bar-styled package and comes with a certificate of authenticity, which Fossil designed to look like a Golden Ticket.

“Our designers were inspired by Wonka’s totally imaginative, outlandish world and leaned into the nostalgia of the story,” Platania says. “Two specific elements we were drawn to were the iconic Golden Ticket hidden in the Wonka chocolate bar and the silly invention of the lickable wallpaper. Both create such a sense of wonder to this day and were the main sources of inspiration in our design process and, ultimately, our product.”

So, does a pineapple earring or fruit-festooned handbag belong in everyone’s accessory wardrobe? Absolutely, Platania says. “Many people—myself included—have those favorite jewelry pieces that you wear every day, whether they’re special heirloom pieces you never take off or your classic silhouettes that complement any outfit. I find, though, that sometimes we all need to have a bit of fun and create moments where dressing up has lost none of its childlike playfulness. ... "

I just watched a interesting history of the Roald Dahl franchise. They recently tried to rewrite his book and the majority of the publishers refused to make all the changes to wokify it and lose the message messages. This goes thru the original the changes then the movies.
