This is one of the pieces of rough I picked up from Mick.

As you can see it has a lot of tricky spots as the sand goes deep inside. So I started out carefully removing the sand and blemishes. Here's where I'm at now. I still have a long ways to go, and it's still a bit of a gamble, but if I can make this work... there's some gorgeous color!

This spot still needs to come out.

And on the bulbous base it looks like there's some more color hiding.

But man, if this doesn't crumble away after removing the rest of the sand... LOOK at that color! <3

I was hoping to keep and use that little black button somehow but see that flash of red by it? Well, it's not just the camera. There's a very brilliant red under there. I'll have to slowly remove it to see how far it goes.

Yes, that's definitely an interesting one and I'm looking forward to seeing how it does as you continue working to reveal the hidden colors. Are you going for a particular shape, or a freeform carving? :)

I won't be able to make that decision until I get all the nasties removed. At that point I'll see what I'm left with.
