Britt’s Pick: Ruchi’s Aurora Nights Opal Ring

Post by PinkDiamond »

I saved the best article for last so it will be at the top of the Active Topics list today. This toi et moi opal ring Is definitely different with this setting, and I love it but it's a given that being so different there will be some who don't like it due to the setting; but the opals are we're focused on anyway so check this out. 8-)

"Opal is colorful enough on its own, its flashes of color so spellbinding you’d swear it’s made of magic. But I love when a jeweler plays up its liveliness with even more color, ensuring we never miss a single moment of rainbow greatness.

An opal ring from Ruchi’s Aurora Nights collection is one example of this. The New York jeweler has taken inspiration from the aurora borealis (which, if you like to believe in magic, may be found in an opal) to bring the gemstone’s hues to life. The ring’s setting is crafted with tinted rhodium that positively gets your eyes popping—sure, we’ve seen colorful rhodium before, but this combination could stop traffic.

“Enchanted by the luminous colors dancing across the night sky of the aurora borealis, Ruchi brings vivid hues to life in her Aurora Nights collection,” says a statement from the brand to JCK. “For the first time, the designer has used tinted rhodium in varying shades of iridescent purple, pink, and blue over 18-karat gold and set with exceptional cut diamonds and opals. Sleek and swirling stackable rings are hand dipped in vibrant metal that echo the magic of the northern lights.”

With not one but two opals, the ring has an open-style setting—a bit of space between the gemstones breaks up their bounty of color. The band, which transitions from pink to purple to blue, has a surprising softness to it, perhaps in contrast to the shock of color from the stones.

This ring looks great on the hand, and offers a fun alternative to October’s bevy of opal jewels.
