Beauty is in the eye of the ...

Post by PinkDiamond »

... in this case I'd have to say, Beauty is in the eye of the beer holder. Why else would anybody make a ring this butt ugly?!

It's from the Lois Boardman Collection currently being featured at the Los Angeles Museum of Art, and is soon to end. The pieces are too bizarre for my taste, other than the koi bracelet I suppose, but the one above takes the cake IMHO.

I saw it and thought,
'Who in their right minds... '

and that, my friends, answered my own question. Nobody in their right minds would make something like that, and the next time you hear somebody tout their piece as "museum quality", just show them this thing and ask if they're sure they want to make that claim.

Wait til you see the other butt ugly ring that looks like a child stuffed gems into metal. I can't stop laughing ... oh, and wait til you see 'the nose'. AHAHAHA

Interesting. I had never heard of Lois Boardman, so I, of course, Googled her name. The information I found was eye opening - she seems fascinating. I encourage anyone else remotely interested to do the same.

Ok, I see that she did not make the odd jewelry but over years collected it. A good read! Thanks for pointing it out lydia, I would of skipped right over that and not followed up without your recommendation.

Here is just one link that covers Lois Boardman:

That's what it looks like to me, too, which is why I said it was butt ugly, but I'm really glad to hear Lois Boardman only collected oddities like that, and didn't create the monstrosity herself.
