35-Carat Lab-Grown Diamond Going on Display in Vegas

Post by PinkDiamond »

Up until now we knew that huge diamonds like ones of this weight had to be natural since the lab-grown industry was limited in the size they could grow them, but now they're pumping out larger and larger synths so we can't count on size to surmise whether one like this is natural or lab-grown anymore. ;)

'Las Vegas—Attendees at JCK Las Vegas show will be able to see a 35-carat lab-grown diamond, a stone that’s just slightly larger than the record-setting lab grown-diamond reported on just last month.

Maitri Lab-Grown Diamonds created the emerald-cut, Type IIa stone using the chemical vapor deposition (CVD) process. The company, which has offices in Surat, India, and New York, said it took approximately 1,800 hours (75 days) to grow the diamond.

The International Gemological Institute graded it as H color, SI1 clarity.

IGI said the 35-carat stone is the largest polished lab-grown diamond to date, topping the 34.59-carat diamond the Gemological Institute of America detailed in a research note published in early May.

“IGI is proud to certify new benchmarks like this exceptional lab-grown diamond from Maitri,” IGI North America President Avi Levy said. “The increasing sophistication and quality of achievements we’re seeing from the top producers are remarkable.”

The diamond will be on display at Maitri’s booth at JCK, 8123.

The 2023 JCK show in Las Vegas kicks off Friday.

At the jewelry trade show, IGI will be participating in two “JCK Talks” education sessions on lab-grown diamonds.

“Lab-Grown 101” with Levy and IGI Senior Director of Education John Pollard is scheduled for Thursday from 5-5:45 p.m. in the Venetian Expo, Level 1.

“Lab-Grown Diamond Updates” is scheduled for Saturday from 10-10:45 a.m. on the Showcase Stage, Venetian Expo, Level 2.

Levy will be joined by JCK News Director Rob Bates, industry analyst Edahn Golan, and Joanna Park-Tonks, president of the International Grown Diamond Association (IGDA).

IGI also will be providing onsite diamond screening and ... "
