Beautiful, Rock! And I love that Shewa Nili. I don't have any Shewas, but hopefully someday I'll find one I can't live without for my collection. As for how long it took to cut the first one, I went excruciatingly slowly because I knew it was so thin it could break at only 1.5mm, and I only worked on it for a couple of hours each night so I'd say it took a good 2 weeks before I gave up and called it finished. Also, the polish leaves a lot to be desired, but I decided not to fool with it anymore and left it as I left it for the contest.

Dien ran the last contest we had, and he supplied the rough, and I got a piece of belemnite that was awesome to cut, but so fragile to work, and 1/4 to 1/3 of it broke off, and I finished both, but the larger piece came out better in the photos so I'll show you that one too.

I adore Shewa! Unfortunately it's hard to find stable pieces. They exist, just not a lot. I had an utterly GORGEOUS chocolate shewa. Unfortunately it was at the beginning of my opal journey and I didn't know much about them. I ground off the rind and it crumbled to pieces. :(

As for my fav? Hmm... I don't know if I can pick just one...

I leave the rind on mine for support. I was told it greatly increases the chance of it holding together. The rest I bought and sell as rough for specimens within their price range.

Thanks KJ, It's 1 inch x1/2 inch. And if the setting is crooked it's because the opal is.

for me a closed shewa is an adventure what might i find inside <lol> i gess that's what i love about them.
