After GIA absorbed the AGS lab in Vegas last fall they jointly came up with this new digital report they're offering on light performance in diamonds, and it would be interesting to find out how many people actually want such a report. Would you? :?:

The Gemological Institute of America will now offer the American Gem Society Laboratories’ diamond light performance report. The companies merged in 2022.

"New York—The jewelry industry is getting its first glimpse of the Gemological Institute of America and the American Gem Society Laboratories partnership.

The GIA and AGS Labs announced their merger last fall. It entailed GIA absorbing AGS Labs’ Las Vegas facility, research staff, intellectual property, and technology.

Now, the organizations have rolled out the AGS Ideal Report by GIA, a digital supplement to certain GIA diamond reports.

The report utilizes the AGS Light Performance system, which measures how well a diamond handles light.

AGS Director of Gemology, Wade Abel, explained, “Using a 3D scan of the diamonds, virtual rays of light are traced through the kaleidoscope of mirrors and windows created by the facets.

“This process considers the relative placement of each facet with the others to assess the diamond's beauty: brightness, fire, contrast, and overall appearance."

The AGS Ideal Report by GIA costs $25. The digital-only report can be added on to GIA’s Diamond Grading Report, Diamond Dossier, Laboratory-Grown Diamond Report, Laboratory-Grown Diamond Report Dossier, eReport, and Diamond Focus Report.

The supplement is available for D- to Z-color natural and lab-grown diamonds. The technology can be applied to round brilliant cuts, oval-cuts, emerald-cuts, radiant-cuts, princess-cuts, and fancy round brilliants.

It’s also available for specific cushion-cut diamonds depending on facet arrangements.

The report is available with or without AGS ASET images.
