The congressional report has dropped. There will be a fee to be a small miner for the exemption and it looks like they will let you correct failures in reporting after notifying you. That would have saved so many family mines over the decades. https://www.congress.gov/congressional- ... ltIndex=12

If it's a good thing for the small miners, then I hope it saves others from losing their claims. If nothing else they're known for dragging their heels, so it's not surprising they took so long to change the rules. Sometimes better late than never just isn't good enough.

How does that work federally? I thought mines were a state thing?

We make the claims in the state and have to follow their rules, but the annual fees and recording is done nationally by the BLM as is the enforcement as MSHA or Mine Safety and Health Administration, that is self funded from the fines being paid. Ask if they wanted all new coal projects halted. In other business: Here's a link to a letter from the off Road users to the President to not go making massive monuments on his way out the door.
