Hi, I'm Don / jakesrocks.
I've been a rockhound practically since I was old enough to crawl on the ground and pick up pretty rocks in my grubby little hands. I became active in rockhounding and lapidary in the early 1950's, when I has in Jr. High. The school I attended had a rock club, and an unused shop classroom which was full of lapidary equipment. One of the shop teachers was a rockhound, and took it upon himself to teach us kids about rocks and lapidary. I've been hooked ever since.

Originally from just S.E. of Cleveland, Ohio, my parents moved me to Riverside, California when I was about 7 years old. After finishing High School, I joined the Navy, and have lived all around this great earth. After retiring from the Navy, I moved back to California where I met my wife. After both of my parents had passed, we moved to South Dakota in 1996 to be near my wife's parents, and the rest is history.
