Yep, I much prefer the searchable forums like this to the Fakebook. Think about it, on facebook, you could never follow a thread like you can here. Once it is off the screen it is hard to find.

AND on top of that, I had an experience where a friend of mine died and facebook proved to me they manipulate the posts because my dead buddy all of the sudden a month later "liked" some company that had nothing to do with anything he would of ever been interested in. And I had locked his account for his widow, so I know nobody else was in it. No... Fakebook wanted to push and advertisement to me and their AI knew I was often on his page so it LIED and said he like something when I know he couldn't of!

They have whole industries devoted to folks that make up fake blogs or just ramblings about anything and stick a comment about a particular company that is paying for that blog post. YouTube videos... 99% of the "funny" videos are so somone can make money and mostly not real.

Ummm.. Ok, I think I need to step down. I didn't realize I had a soapbox here.

Anyways, it is uploading into the folder I mentioned earlier. Here is the link again:

https://drive.google.com/folderview?id= ... sp=sharing

There is the Microsoft word (docx) version and PDF version. Some pictures where already gone, so if you see a broken link check on the original forum (while we can) and let me know if it is on my end. I tried to leave the page number counting thing in there, but it works out to over 600 pages on the word doc! (YIKES! )

Also, I put a request in to the internet archive (wayback machine) here:

https://archive.org/

I don't know what percentage of the forums is on the archive there, but I know it isn't all there. I told them it was being removed and had lots of good information about various opal locals, formation, mining, cutting, etc... But who knows if they will run a new archive on it or not.

sigh...

Ohhhh, that's PERFECT!! I really thought it was a goner being the size it is since I knew I could never copy it and upload all those pics here. Thank you so much BL!!!!! :D

I noticed a few months ago that my avatar disappeared on OA, and when I went to upload it again, the prompt to upload it from my computer wasn't there. The only option was to use a link, like to Photobucket, so I left my profile without an avatar. I couldn't believe they changed it, and I noticed other pics were gone so maybe they changed the size requirements and anything oversize disappeared, I don't know. That's all I can think of for a reason why it would suddenly disappear after all those years, but it's mystifying because I never imagined they'd be working on the forum program and changing it when they were looking to shut it down, if that's what happened. All I know it it was too weird; one day it was there, and the next day it was gone and I couldn't upload it again. :o  :?

OA was still there this morning when I checked, but I figured it would come down today, and sure enough, it has. Poof - all gone.

I'm so glad we're all here. :D

ForUM KILLER Dump de dumm dumm. Are you sure? Did you kick the body? Ping the server for a sign of address? I deleted my other post because it was still there for me when i went and looked the other day. Well, damned if it isn't gone this time. Couldn't find a crotch to test for a response. You know it had to hurt when they pulled the plug. I need a next to nothing server for my dot com if possible as much as I would hate having to actual do something like writing code with it. At least thinking up new passwords anymore with the no knowledge internet. Kinda hate to have shared pictures fall out. I do make original posts more than shares to keep that from happening, but you depend on the people you are using for a billboard.

I know what happened, they pulled the plug on paying for bandwidth and storage space for their forum.
I'm sure they weren't willing to invest one more red cent into that forum, so they just turned that feature off.

I could do that easily on this forum too, but we basically have unlimited storage and bandwidth (within reason of course) so hosting images here on this forum is not an issue.

The good news is that I've purchased a new hosting account, so eventually, sometime in this next coming 12 months, I will be moving this forum (and the Christian forum that has basically died a cruel lonely death...lol) over to hopefully more reliable and better uptime servers.

Chris :)

Ya... i saw it go. I didn't have time to go and research any of my posts there. I mean, we had plenty of notice. I just didn't have time myself. C'est la vie.
