Wedding Rings
Anyway, I SUCK at soldering but at least at this point I know the joy of when it finally flows correctly. Hopefully it's a joy that will eventually become all too common. lol
Anyhoo, I've been deeply engrossed in soldering the last few weeks. It's probably the biggest learning curve I've had with anything. Ever. But I'm determined!!
Currently I'm working on a very special ring for my nephew.... I'm gonna make about 3 of them and let them (cough... her) choose which she likes best. It'll give me practice and I can always put the other two up for sale. Just silver at this point with a 5mm Moissenite, I'm only charging for materials. Sweet thing though. One of my boys came in yesterday as I was working and asked me if a ring can be resized. Course I told him generally yes. Then he said that he'll probably design his ring and have me make it before he even finds a girl. He wants to start saving and planning now so he'll be more than prepared. I just love it when my kiddos let me have a glimpse into their hearts. And it always impresses me.

Re: First!! lol
How wonderful that he shared that with you, and is determined to be prepared for when he finds Miss Right. Kudos to him, and that's great for you as his mom.

]Sneak peak. I'm sending the settings off for a test fitting before I set the stone and notch the band to fit snug to the other ring. Bad photo. Stone is a lot prettier IRL.

And... done! I sent the other setting out for a test fit. Had to drop it a half size and she wanted a more practical, lower setting so I made a new one. I also notched the wedding band to fit.

Re: Wedding Rings
Nice work KJ
I'm impressed
good soldering is not so hard (although I didn't done it for a long time ) but there are many things which can go wrong
first you need to prepare everything nice , clear & perfect
and most important is to heat the silver to the right temp.
depends what you do you should use right solder - hard medium soft
.. just take some old silver junk and practice different techniques
now I don't have my work-place but hopefully next year I'll start making some silver work
greets

Congrats Kj it's beautiful.
Re: Wedding Rings
TY!! And OS - it's really hard for me. I "know" the info but am still working on flame control. I melted two of these before I got this one right.
Edit - no wait, I didn't melt this one. I melted two of the crosses that I used for the broach pin. The back of the bezel was melting into the holes in the filigree. First one I thought it was just me. After the second one I moved to a thicker sheet for the back of the bezel and then it worked great.

Re: Wedding Rings
Very nice. Soldering must be something in the blood. I find it incredibly difficult. Not true. Good soldering is incredibly difficult. Anyone can melt blobs of stuff, but to have it turn out - that's hard.
