112-Year-Old New Orleans Business Popping Up in Aspen

"New Orleans—M.S. Rau, a 112-year-old New Orleans institution, is popping up out West this summer.
Earlier this week, the longstanding jewelry, antiques, and art gallery announced it will open a seasonal location in Aspen, Colorado, on June 6.
M.S. Rau Aspen will occupy the entire street-level floor at 228 South Mill St., a historic building in downtown Aspen that is across the street from Louis Vuitton.
Like its store in New Orleans, the Aspen M.S. Rau location will stock jewelry from Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, Harry Winston, and more, along with artwork from masters such as Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Pablo Picasso, and Edgar Degas.
It also will host special events and exhibitions in conjunction with the city’s major cultural events, including the Food & Wine Classic (June 14-16), the Aspen Ideas Festival (June 23-29), and Aspen Art Week in August.
The store will remain open through the end of September.
Max Rau opened M.S. Rau on Royal Street in New Orleans’ French Quarter in 1912. It is currently led by third-generation owner Bill Rau.
The Aspen pop-up marks M.S. Rau’s first retail location outside the city.
