Diamonds Smash Estimates at Sotheby’s Paris Auction

"A 6.79-carat diamond ring by Hemmerle was the top seller at the most recent jewelry sale at Sotheby’s, pushing past its upper estimate to realize EUR 304,800 ($328,890).
The auction house sold the brilliant-cut, D-color, VS2-clarity piece at the March 27 Paris Fine Jewels sale, where it exceeded its EUR 250,000 ($269,760) high price tag, according to the Sotheby’s website. In total, the sale garnered EUR 5.5 million ($5.9 million).
Signed pieces from top design houses, including Cartier, Chaumet, Van Cleef & Arpels, and Boucheron, also performed well, while several diamonds surpassed their top presale estimates.

A Cartier bracelet featuring onyx, emeralds and brilliant-cut, yellow-tinted diamonds, designed to look like a tiger, brought in EUR 298,450 ($322,043), just shy of its upper estimate.
This marquise-shaped, 7.62-carat, F-color, VVS2-clarity diamond ring by Cartier went for EUR 215,900 ($232,979), surpassing its EUR 140,000 ($151,082) presale high price.
Sotheby’s sold this necklace, set with rows of step-cut emeralds and step-cut, circular-cut and rose diamonds in a garland design, achieved EUR 177,800 ($191,854), above its EUR 100,000 ($107,904) upper price tag.
