Medici Family Jewels Head to Auction

Post by PinkDiamond »

Here we have royal jewels from the Medici family going up for auction, and although neither the watch pendant nor the pendant below it appeal to me, the ruby and gold vintage bracelet is lovely, the opera glasses are a hoot, and as much as I love the snake set, the sapphire and diamond cuff bracelet is breathtaking and takes first prize as the favorite in this lineup. Wow!! 8-)

"Kruse GWS Auctions is set to host an auction on March 2 paying tribute to the house of Medici, the influential Renaissance-era Italian dynasty.

The de Medici Royal Family Collection and More sale features an exceptional assortment of jewelry and artifacts dating back to the 16th century. The Medicis governed Florence and later Tuscany from the Renaissance into the 1700s, produced four popes (Leo X, Clement VII, Pius IV, and Leon XI), and intermarried with European royal families (Catherine de Medici became the queen of France through her marriage to Henry II).

“The de Medici royal family represent centuries of some of the most important moments in the grand history of Italy,” said Brigitte Kruse, Kruse GWS Auctions’ founder and lead auctioneer, in a statement. “It is our honor to host one of the most significant collections to ever represent a royal lineage as important to the country as that of the de Medici family. The trust bestowed upon us by the Medici family and the history it represents is not taken lightly.”

In addition to jewels, lots include decorative and household objects and some recent valuable possessions, such as a Jaguar from the collection of Prince Lorenzo de Medici (b. 1975), an artist and businessman.

A few of the jewelry highlights in the de Medici auction are shown below. Bidding is now open online.
