The Midwest’s oldest and largest “rock show” is just around the calendar corner! The 46th Annual Greater Indianapolis Gem, Mineral and Fossil Show will be held September 8, 9, and 10 at the Hancock County Fairgrounds in Greenfield, Indiana. Admission is free.
Dealers, swappers, and vendors will have available fossils, minerals, rocks, slabs, and jewelry items (both finished, as well as beads, findings, and metals). Geodes and opals are just two of the many popular items for sale, and lapidary equipment is often available. Demonstrations happen frequently during the event. A kids’ area is always well-liked, and this year it will include a fluorescence display. There are three covered areas for vendors and an uncovered area as well. Food is available.
The show will open each day at 10 a.m., closing at 6 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and at 4 p.m. on Sunday. There is no charge for admission or parking, and RV parking is available. A geologist will be on-site each day to help identify specimens. On Saturday at 2:00, the Indiana Society of Paleontology will meet.
