Special penguin inspires kids with disabilities

Post by PinkDiamond »

I just saw this on the news, and it's so adorable I have to post it for you. There's no link to it on YT, so you'll need to click their source link to see this African penguin named Rosie, that was born with structural deformation, but can now be a part of the group. Between the kids and the penguin, this is too cute! 8-)

A small African penguin named Rosie has a great impact on children with special needs. Veterinarians at the OdySea Aquarium in Arizona first noticed an abnormality in Rosie’s skeleton when they hatched in 2019. “The penguins can sit alone when they’re ready to start walking, but Rosie didn’t show us that they could do it themselves, so we need to give her a little help as a team. “The walking sling helped Rosie gain some strength and work on her athletic performance. She is now two years old and people love to see her waddle.” You can see her very unique shuffle and how she learned to adapt, “Penguins said. Aquarium staff emphasize Rosie’s differences to connect with children facing their challenges. “The children who can relate to her because of these differences are exactly why we do what we do,” Perantou said. A small African penguin named Rosie has a great impact on children with special needs.

Veterinarians at the OdySea Aquarium in Arizona first noticed an abnormality in Rosie’s skeleton when Rosie hatched in 2019.

“Very early in Rosie’s development, she knew she was a little different,” says Jessica Perantou, Head of Animal Care and Education at the Odyssey Aquarium. Told KNXV.. “The penguins can sit alone when they’re ready to start walking, but Rosie didn’t show us that they could do it themselves, so we need to give her a little help as a team. I decided to have it. “”

The walking sling helped Rosie gain some strength and work on her athletic performance. She is now 2 years old and people love to see her waddles.

“You can see her very unique shuffle and how she learned to adapt,” Perantou said.
