Our old home, OA, had some videos in their latest newsletter that I thought y'all might enjoy seeing. This one shows the terrain in Ethiopia, and at the end of the video there's a gorgeous array of rough opals to drool over.
In this one, Paul Sedawie does some mining for red on black Australian opal, and shows the damage, and the danger ratters pose to legitimate miners, creating dangerous situations that make mines unsafe for those who own them. He shows a week's haul, and shows how rare the highly sought-after red on black opals are found, mostly in small sizes, which is why they're so expensive. Enjoy!
I have one red-on-black opal that our friend dienn on OA sent me when I bought a heart pendant from him to replace the one he had given me that was lost when the clasp on the chain failed.
It's .42ct, 8.26x5.86x1.30mm, and is like a chameleon when you turn it as the reds flash, and some golds and even blue show up, which I couldn't capture on film, but here are a few shots of it to show you what I mean.
I've got 2 of the same pics on this, and when I try to remove one, it's still there, so sorry for the repeat. At least I figured out how to crop them on the new programs on this system, and how to find where the heck they went so I could show them to you. Oy.
