Enji Jewelry Studio donated these 14-karat recycled yellow gold earrings with hexagon-cut sapphires weighing 2 carats total to Gem Legacy’s online benefit auction.

"Royal Oak, Mich.—Gem Legacy turns 3 this fall, and the industry nonprofit is again celebrating its birthday with an online benefit auction.

The 501(c)(3) supports vocational training, entrepreneurship, and community development in colored stone mining regions in East Africa.

As it celebrates three years in 2021, Gem Legacy has partnered with gem dealers, jewelers and marketers for an online auction of gemstones and jewelry.

Auction items are from: Anza Gems, Buzz Advertising Agency, Caleb B. Quashen International, Enji Jewelry Studio, Dan Lynch Gems, Debra Navarro Jewelry, LuxeRox, Omi Gems, and Roger Dery Gem Design.

All proceeds from the event will go toward Gem Legacy’s initiative to provide artisanal miners with the necessary tools. Each toolkit costs $125 on average but are customized to the needs of each miner.

The auction is going on now through Sunday, Sept. 26 at 8 p.m. EDT.

Participants can choose to bid in increments or buy outright by selecting the “Buy Now” price. Shipping costs are included for those in the United States.

“Any member of the industry can bid on these beautiful gems and jewelry donated by our generous supporters,” said Rachel Dery Merisheki of Gem Legacy.

Gem Legacy delivered 68 miner toolkits to artisanal miners in Kenya and Tanzania when the team was on the ground in East Africa this summer.

Its work this year has also included 15 scholarships for students at the Arusha Gem Faceting school in Arusha, Tanzania, funded by a grant from the JCK Industry Fund; two new gemstone faceting machines donated and delivered to that same school; daily breakfast and lunch donated to more than 800 primary students at the Kitarini Primary School in Longido, Tanzania; COVID-19 relief deliveries; and much more.
