"The Women’s Jewelry Association (WJA) Foundation’s 2021 scholarship program is now open to applicants through April 30, 2021.

The New York–based WJA was founded in 1983 to provide support, scholarships, and grants to female and female-identifying students in the jewelry and watch industries. Scholarships now available total $40,000.

There are three spring programs that students can apply for right now: the Cindy Edelstein Jewelry Design Scholarship, the WJA-Gabriel Love Foundation Student Scholarship, and several student scholarships.

The Cindy Edelstein Jewelry Design Scholarship offers $5,000 to emerging fine jewelry designers or artisans. The scholarship was established in 2016 in memory of one of the jewelry industry’s most beloved members. Edelstein understood, in particular, the unique business and career challenges that new talent faces, and the award honors her history of educating, mentoring, and coaching aspiring entrepreneurs.

The WJA-Gabriel Love Foundation Student Scholarship, offered by WJA in partnership with Gabriel & Co., awards $5,000 to its recipient each year. The scholarship is given to a student enrolled in design or non-design courses through a jewelry or metalsmithing program at an accredited college, university, or training school.

In addition to the Cindy Edelstein and Gabriel Love Foundation scholarships, WJA has dedicated $30,000 in student scholarships to female and female-identifying students who are pursuing degrees in jewelry design, CAD, gemology, and business development. WJA is providing the funding to students enrolled in jewelry or metalsmithing programs at an accredited college, university, or training school between Aug. 1, 2021, and July 31, 2022. The scholarships range from $1,000 to $7,000.

The student scholarships are designated in three categories. The Designer/Creator award will be given based on images of finished pieces that are designed and created by the student. The Designer award will be given based on designs by the student, including CAD designs and drawings. And the Non-Designer award will be given based on an essay penned by those studying to be a gemologist, appraiser, watchmaker, bench jeweler, or retailer.

A jury will decide who is awarded the scholarships in early June. Applicants are not required to be members of WJA, but they’re encouraged to join, as membership is free. For more information on how to apply for the scholarships or to join WJA, visit here. ... "
