"New York, NY—Online shopping numbers rocketed over the entire Thanksgiving holiday weekend, culminating in the biggest ever one-day online sales total in history on Monday. Shoppers spent a total of $10.8 billion on Monday, now known as “Cyber Monday.” Image: Firmbee from Pixabay.

Adobe Analytics data estimates Cyber Monday sales rose 15.1% this year. The company analyzes web transactions from the top 100 U.S. online retailers. Although Cyber Monday’s sales totals came in short of Adobe’s original forecast of $12.7 million, shoppers have been buying online for weeks, somewhat diminishing both Black Friday and Cyber Monday as bellwethers of consumer sentiment for the season. Big-box retailers and others began their holiday deals as early as October, spreading out the season to avoid crowds in response to the coronavirus pandemic. Online spending on both Thanksgiving Day and Black Friday rose 22% year on year, totaling $5.1 billion and $9 billion respectively, says a report on CNBC.
