"The Horological Society of New York (HSNY), America’s oldest watchmaking guild, announced Wednesday that it’s launching a virtual horological tutoring program for watch enthusiasts and makers of all levels.

As part of the program, professional watchmakers will share material slides in real time and demonstrate the disassembly and reassembly of a mechanical movement live at their home workbenches.

The classes and tutoring sessions will be taught by the same instructors that teach HSNY’s classes in New York and around the world. Each 60–90–minute course is customizable and offers a focus on theoretical approaches of watchmaking.

The program’s offerings are:

++ Online Curriculum (recommended for beginners), which covers basic movement theory, gear train theory, and escapement theory.

++ One-on-One Tutoring (suggested for students who’ve completed HSNY’s 101–104 courses), which covers tool dressing and maintenance, quartz battery replacement, glass crystal replacement, acrylic crystal replacement, observation of movement disassembly and discussion about movement service, and timing machine results and general timing principles.
