It was prettier in the dome, but I love my Virgin Valley black opal pendant.Image
I really do need to make what isn't in the "personal collection" buckets available, but I've never gotten a pocket to gusher digging by hand. I carried my pendent in its dome for 5 years or so asking i think 1300, until the dome leaked one winter. There was no African Opal undercutting prices then. I carried it dry for another 2 or 3 years in the display case as an example of what they look like when drying as that mines opal differs from the others somewhat. Then I figured it would keep slowly going away to sand in that display case, so I treated it and cut it with a product made for repairing cracked Australian opals named Opal Cure. That was as far as I got when I ran out of wheels years ago. It is still just flow coated, not polished back down to the surface, because I question the resin curing under the shell. I've bounced it off countless things since then that would have shattered a natural.

This is the best picture i have of looking into the side at the plumes or honeycomb whatever it's called.

DSCN7734 gem silica front +.JPG
This stone was personally cut for my wife, by a cutter in Pa. Its a 18.09ct gem silica, in a trapezoid cut. The material contains wisps of chrysocolla floating in a chalcedony base stone, a total blue color floating in a colorless base. This pendent is the 1st stone she wears after waking up daily, very special for her because the stone was cut from the cutters personal collection of rough & is very unique as formed without any green color sometimes found in this material- 8-)
