I figured out early that best, most, favorite, had to chose, only one was not worth worrying too much time over. I tended to collect one of everything, but only best of what i first tripped over. Still have not polished the bulk of it. Bulk is like 99.999 right?
This is a yellow facet grade with interesting cracks thru the middle for refractions/rainbows WW did with a Rh garnet I tried to give away as a vendor donation at Apple Jam last year, but it did not make it past the staff. When my daughter came back to tell me what happened to this first one (given to a selfless volunteer for years who fell in love with it) I had made up a second baggie with card and donation and just handed her the back up LOL and that boulder opal WW made it into the hands of a young male opalholic at the show in the crowd.

Six days to go! Still time for anyone watching to post their entries. Although some of you may not be interested in many or any of the prizes, I suspect you know a budding rockhound or future gemologist who would be excited to have them, and you would be a winner. You cannot win if you don't post something. Don't have a camera or a rock - borrow someone's phone and snap a photo of the gravel at the side of a road ;)

I personally have no problem with inviting other rock fanciers :)

Done deal. This is the stone my Avatar is cut from picture of. One of the few named opals we dug and mainly because the photographer, James Mulkey wanted to for Rock and Gem Magazine. Evening Starfire as published.

The more the merrier! They'll just need to become members to post their own entries, like our newest member did, Opalguy. Hopefully he will add to the thread. :D

Wow John, Evening Starfire is simply gorgeous! And pretty darn big, too! Wow!! :!:

That's a monster!

Mysterious opals contain the wonders of the skies - sparkling rainbows, fireworks, and lightning, shifting and moving in their depths.
