Glad things arrived - plus the contest managed to end before the photobucket fiasco erupted 8-)

Just in. Parcel arrived today.

WOW, what an assortment.

Light-conditions are not in my favor today, but here a few pics taken a few minutes ago.

Beryl catseye on top, Jasper on the left and I think either Bingamite (sp?) or seraphite (sp?) on right, plus Mitrolite at the bottom. As said, light not ideal to show off the wonderful colours. Will catch up and do pictures individually of all cabs and specimen, over the next few days.

And this huge opal (I think), or is it Bat-cave?

With its layers of white, that should be ideally suited to use in something like cameo.

I'm particularly fascinated by the miniature world of the Vanadinite specimen.

Thank you sooo much for the superb gift,
Best regards, Kurt

The last piece is wascoite - which is a layered mix of agate, opal and jasper. That is one of the pieces from the original early 1965 dig (dug out over 2 days, as it was uncovered during a road construction project and the remaining outcrop is now under Hwy 97) near the hamlet of Wasco, Sherman County, Oregon. There was a second deposit near Rufus, Oregon found later, but less opal in the newer material. Both are difficult to find in shops these days. I see that I misspelled "Deschutes" jasper, too :o

I'm glad the slow mail made it to HK!

Wow, what great gifts you sent to Kurt, r2d! Looks like he may have some good material for carving in there so hopefully we'll get to see some of them transformed into some of his beautiful designs. Nice stuff you scored, Kurt! And much thanks for all you've done for everyone who participated in the contest, r2d!! :D

Ok, some pics of the cabs. Light favored me this morning.

And then the darnest thing happened. Just picked up the laptop after two days to bring with me to work, and there is another wrapper from the box, un-opened.
And whats in it?
My favorite of them all,..... Christmass came early this year....

Just hope one day I might get one big enough to carve......

Thank you so much R2D.......

Specimens, another day......

Awesome! And I can see why you prize the sunstone. Is the schiller visible under magnification? Beautiful stuff, and I hope r2d can ID that third one in the second pic for us. It's lovely so I'd like to know what it is, myself. :)

Ah, that's sagenite in agate from Mexico. The other ? is eudialyte.

If I'm remembering, there's little visible schiller in that sunstone. Probably should have looked for a piece for carving to put in there instead, but was mostly trying to fill the box without going to the next-higher postage price. Not sure that I still have any larger rough pieces with which I could bear to part, in any event. I'm tentatively supposed to drive some folks out to the sunstone area in September or October for a day dig, so may turn up a few larger pieces.

No worries, this piece is more than enough r2d.

I'm over the moon with your generosity, and would have been so, if that sunstone would have been the only piece arriving.
Now I have a reference to colour, and "know" what all the fuss around this material is all about.
