Here's a silly fact, from rebuilding the family walnut ranch we flooded the black walnut burl market in the late 90's. There were 220+ acres of old trees to remove.
Re: Making a ring from crushed Opal
oh wow! Did you save any?

Ah yes, the great 90s walnut flood, you know, people say it was nuts!
Re: Making a ring from crushed Opal
You should be proud of yourself Mick that was good. No burl KJ, black walnut wood yes. David made his self a desk from it, beautiful.

Re: Making a ring from crushed Opal
I'm quite sure it's not natural opal
- he use 2 types of 'synth' opal : dark-semi black & light-semi crystal
- the color of the fire is the same - blue & light aqua green
*if you want the same color of fire only possible way is to crush 1 opal
also he have a lot of crushed opal - 20ct or more ? - to do it you would need 60ct or more of gem grade opal
and I don't think anybody would do it with real opal that is why the best way is to use small but good quality chips
- with natural opal this ring would cost big $$$
- here just 1 example but there are other types > https://www.aliexpress.com/item/10-piec ... 83032.html
the technique is cool and I've seen it before with other stuff and I don't have problem if he use synthetic opal but he should point that out because most people think this is natural opal and it's cheap !
and I know this from XP because in my country there are many sellers of 'mass produce low quality silver jewelry' and they sell - 'silver jewelry with opal' for $10-$30 without any information that this is fake opal (*technicaly it's not even synthetic opal) - and many people buy this junk and they think this is opal ... and when they see real opal for $100 they think > 'what $100 for the stone - are you crazy ? I can buy jewelry with opal for $30'
