Moonstone first carving attempt

Post by KKHK »

Due to the generosity of Orrum I'm able to dabble a bit with US moonstone.
Did a couple of cabs, so now it was time to step it up....

From the start

32mm x 10mm at the longest and widest points
In different light, blue colour seems to come out with brown background and LED flashlight

AND, in absence of sun today; some angles to show at least some asterism

Thanks for looking, and as the next few days will be busy organizing some more BBQ's up at the cabin, wish you an early.....

Looks great. It is difficult to capture the shimmer of moonstone and other optical phenomena stones with photography.

That's really beautiful, Kurt. I love dolphins and love that you carved it in moonstone. That's so cool how different it looks in each shot, depending on the light and background. Thanks for sharing it with us, and especially for the lovely sentiments for the New Year. We wish the same to you and yours. Have a lovely BBQ and celebration in your little Shangri-La, and a very Happy New Year. :D

Yeah its tricky to get the asterism.
It looks like the farther away the light-source, the more you get (look at the weaker shadows) in this case.
Hoping for some sun to get more of it.
