Nephrite Jade Native Pendant

Post by OpalSpectrum »

finished this about week ago - it was birthday gift :)
native style nephrite arrowhead
I was not sure how to set it because i didn't want to make the hole (like pounamu toki) or to use glue
I thought about silver wire but I decided to use simple ancient method and set it like normal arrowhead

Nice looking. I always wondered about wearing arrowheads with real edges on them more than decorative arrrowheads after i jabbed myself once with one i wrapped. Any needle sharp things either. On the other hand Ivory Roulette balls can act like a clapper. They are so rare to find in most places, if you ever do find a perfect one, you want to show it off. I seem to remember my folks never brought back sharp jade from New Zealand as art either. Can't trust a tourist to not cut themselves or something like that. HAH

That's beautiful OS, and I agree that's a very clever way to attach it. The other pieces are lovely, too, and I'm with you on the sharp edges. Steve has a hanging brass dragon sculpture a patient made for him years ago, that has a lovely crystal in his hands, but the entire piece has sharp protruding wires that are sharp as razors emanating in every direction, and a spine that's hard, sharp, and serrated, like shark's teeth. :o I hate the thing because it's really a dangerous weapon, and just trying to clean it can give you a nasty gash. It's an accident waiting to happen.

If I had my druthers I'd keep the crystal and hang it in a window by fishing line, and recycle the dragon.

So you can understand the severity of the danger with this piece, I took a few shots of it for you.

Thanks for showing us your pieces, OS. It's not surprising that you're smart enough not to make them into weapons. Kudos! :)

@SwordfishMining - I never knew about 'Ivory Roulette balls' :)
thanks

@Pink - cool dragon I like the design but it's so spiky I wonder how this patient made it  he probably wore armor
