Dumortierite

Post by kjsspot »

I decided to challenge myself to see if I could get a carving done in 3 or 4 hours. I didn't quite make it. I got it done in 5 hours.

I picked up some Dumortierite trimmings from someone that was making spheres. So I have a quart size baggies of these. I've not worked with this before. Here's the shape i started with. It's covered in dust.

Drilling didn't work very well... So I abandoned my original plan and just started working the stone.

And here's what I ended up with. May I present to you, Blue Fairy.

Great save. Looks ready for the radiator of your Rolls Royce :D Did you have any problem with undercutting? I have had pieces from Nevada and Peru, neither of which look quite like yours. Yours seems more solid; do you know the origin?

No, it was pretty rough to polish. I had to revert to diamond on wood.
