How much does the largest pearl ever found weigh?

Post by PinkDiamond »

This is just a little blip about pearls that I found when I answered a question that asked how much the largest pearl ever found weighed. I guessed correctly at over 70 pounds, and I can't imagine the size of the bivalve this pearl was found in.
Pearls form inside shelled mollusks (oysters and mussels) and they are typically quite small and beautiful. However, the Pearl of Puerto, the largest natural pearl ever found, is oddly shaped and weighs more than seventy pounds!
