Kilauea is refilling her lava lake above the east rift zone

The eruption continued at the summit of Kilauea on Sunday. Scientists noted slightly reduced vigor this morning, with two narrow channels of lava spilling from the west vent on the wall of the caldera.

The most amazing thing were tropicbirds flying over the lava lake.

Very nice, Mila, and thanks so much for sharing that adventure with us. Are you a professional photographer by any chance? You brought back fond memories of our chopper flight over the area back in the 90's, with a cowboy crop duster at the stick who flipped us upside down over the main caldera for an interesting birds' eye view of it.

No, I am not a professional photographer although quite a few of my pictures got published in different books and journals.
Yes, helicopter flights were fun. We flew “no door” helicopter. I attached my GoPro to my sandal and kept my foot outside.
The video was better than I expected.

That was innovative with the go pro.Tell myself Ill buy one of those someday, but i cant even keep up with the other camera. Thanks for sharing. I got to Hawaii once, with the wrong one, LOL, but had a great tie there. We flew around the mountains & coast on Kauai for our helicopter tour. Our joke was "We're sorry the hurricane stole the beach". Had a good time as we were snorkeling vs beach lounging, much. Had a rental car too so we were out and about.
