Good grief, KJ, how did you detach your retina? That sounds very scary! Are your eyes okay now, and do you have any complications seeing or with your eyes since your surgery?

KJ, I was asleep when they performed the biopsy. The eye surgeon made an incision in the crease of my eyelid to reach the tissue.

I have seen colors, that may be what you saw during your surgery, while having cataract surgery many moons ago in both eyes. Pretty weird. I wanted to look at the colors and the doc kept telling me to not move my eyes.

I wanted to thank everyone for their kind words of encouragement and prayers. I greatly appreciate it!!!!

Rick and I found out yesterday morning that the biopsy is not malignant and not even a tumor.

It is an amyloid deposition. The eye surgeon removed what he could while performing the biopsy, but I am supposed to receive a call for an appt. with a surgeon at Emory in Atlanta to see if the surgeon can remove any more of the amyloid.

From what I understand, amyloid is some type of weird protein and starch that is formed in the bone marrow. It can affect different organs in the body. It is the same stuff that affects the brain in patients with Alzheimers (amyloid plaques).

We also have to see our general practitioner for possible further testing when Rick is not scheduled to work to make sure there is not any amyloid deposits anywhere else or amyloidosis (spelling?) in any organs, etc...

Thank you so much for your prayers and well wishes!!

I'm go glad to hear it's an amyloid plaque deposit and can likely be removed, gingie! What a relief, and hopefully finding this will help you clear the plaque and avoid dealing with Alzheimer's later on. You're very lucky this was found so you can avoid major problems on down the road, so this is actually turning out to be a blessing. :D

Wonderful to have you join us, John. Make yourself right at home. ;)
