18.60 ct. Quartz Crystal with Fluorescent Petroleum

Post by PinkDiamond »

This is a phenomenal specimen being offered by Brad the Gem Trader, that would be coming to my collection if we didn't have to replace the hot water heater a week ago. Waaahh! I figure if I can't have it maybe one of y'all will want to scarf it up.

18.60 ct. Quartz with Fluorescent Petroleum Crystal

Color: Colorless
Clarity: Moderately Included
Origin: Baluchistan, Pakistan
Cut: Natural Crystal
Treatments: None
Measurements: 19.2 x 15.2 x 12 mm

A simply remarkable natural gem from a find a few years back. From the Baluchistan province in Pakistan comes this lovely, doubly terminated gem Quartz crystal with remarkable inclusions of bright yellow, fluorescent Petroleum. The Petroleum is completely incased with the stone and contains multiple bubbles along with some darker, previously organic material. Additionally, many of the Petroleum areas are enclosed in negative Quartz crystals - one of the most unusual inclusion stones you could hope to find. The Petroleum inclusions themselves are highly fluorescent in both longwave and shortwave UV light - have a look at the photos to see this stunning effect. A perfect little example of what the gem world is capable of!
