Staff Picks, Summer 2021: Mint Condition

Post by PinkDiamond »

I love the minty color of the stone in the ring in the lead pic, but was disappointed to see them call it green amethyst, which is a misnomer, like calling bixbite red emerald. Wrong! In this case, it's called prasiolite, which is created by taking amethyst and heating it to 500 degrees Celsius, at which point it changes to yellow or green, so it used to be natural amethyst, but is now treated amethyst, and if they want to associate it with amethyst, the correct term should have been "greened-amethyst".

I also love the minty green watch, so I'll cut this off there and you can use the link to see the other two pieces. I have no idea why the last one is in an article on minty jewels.

Or you could call it failed Citrine? I like all the things people adorn themselves with. Im just too hard on things to wear much.
Maybe the last one is in there because of the Black Hills Gold Green Links?

I imagine so, but they don't look particularly green to me, they look like silver. I would have preferred something like a Merelani mint garnet. Now that's a minty green!
