Jewelry Auction Alert: Hindman’s Palm Beach Sale Starts Tomorrow

Post by PinkDiamond »

There are some nice pieces in this one, but not many so since the carved coral rose brooch by Van Cleef and Arpels in the lead pic is my favorite, I'll cut this off before the rest of the photos. Sweet! :)

"We love a splashy jewelry auction, but the most attention-getting headlines tend to be the domain of the big international auction houses. So a dispatch from a domestic outfit stands out, as is the case with tomorrow’s Palm Beach Fine Jewelry sale hosted by Hindman. Starting at 10 a.m. ET, bidders will be able to participate via absentee bid, by phone, or live online.

Operating more U.S. sale rooms than any other American auction house, Hindman is headquartered in Chicago, with additional offices in Atlanta; Cincinnati; Cleveland; Denver; Milwaukee; Naples, Fla.; Palm Beach, Fla.; San Diego; Scottsdale, Ariz.; St. Louis; and Washington, D.C.

The Palm Beach sale features 116 lots from designers such as Tony Duquette, Christopher Walling, Nicholas Varney, Evelyn Clothier, and more.

Hindman hosted a preview late last week, and you can check out a video recording of it here.

“There are so many big, colorful pieces. It’s not just your classic diamond pieces, which we do have in the sale, but it is really special…for us to have these big colorful pieces,” said Sally Klarr, director and senior specialist of the jewelry and timepieces department at Hindman, during the preview.

She was joined by her colleague Katie Guilbault, Hindman’s regional director of business development and senior specialist, who highlighted Lot 115, one of the Duquette pieces, as a favorite: The brooch—which spans the width of two cupped hands—is made of petrified coral with a mixed-cut blue fluorite at its center. “It was a very fun mystery for us to discover [what the gem was] after talking with the Tony Duquette archives,” said Klarr. (See her Instagram Live interview ahead of the sale with Hutton Wilkinson, creative director and president of Tony Duquette, here.)

Klarr and Guilbault also shared their Top 5 whimsical lots in the auction, which includes a pair of Nicholas Varney earrings in the shape of peanuts.

As for me, I decided to narrow the array of whimsical jewels with an eye for pieces that would make good gifts for Valentine’s Day, including the carved coral rose brooch by Van Cleef & Arpels at top. See something your sweetheart might like? The timing couldn’t be more perfect. ... "
