"If there can be no Nutcracker at the New York City Ballet (NYCB) this year, let there at least be a virtual version. And if the dancers are wearing jewels of the highest order? Even better.

That’s what Sotheby’s had in mind when the auction house planned a film in collaboration with the NYCB, featuring soloist Sebastian Villarini-Velez and Corps de Ballet member India Bradley (both pictured below). The production, titled The Nutcracker Reimagined, was filmed in Sotheby’s York Avenue galleries in New York City and features original choreography by NYCB soloist and choreographer Peter Walker. And best of all, the dancers are adorned in select jewels from the auction house’s December jewelry and watch auctions.

On Dec. 4 at 2 p.m. EST, The Nutcracker Reimagined will be broadcast on multiple platforms, including Sothebys.com, YouTube, Instagram, and Facebook, as a way to celebrate Sotheby’s Festival of Wonder, a two-week-long, multicategory luxury series of live and online sales. To view the performance when it airs, RSVP here; viewers will also be able to access it for a limited time on Sotheby’s website.

As for the must-shop Festival of Wonder sales, a highlight is the live Magnificent Jewels auction, on Dec. 9, a glittery snow globe of fancy color diamonds, emeralds, and icy aquamarines. I’m giving rounds of applause to the “sugarplum fairies” below.
