I would of pegged it as welo. Just a visual gut feeling. Problem is without stone in hand to test, pics are hard to prove 100%

naturally transparent and translucent pieces less hydrophane than opaque specimen. All have the same small dark inclusion some forms root-like inclusion. I assume they are just crystal/jelly Welo opal.

So did you cut them down further to reveal the color? If so, apparently the original cutter was going for size over color, which isn't logical since color sells for more than size in opaque white opal. Of course, on the white cotton background the white is bleeding thru and adding to the milkiness of the stones, so it's too bad your 'before' shot was not done in hand too.
