Hello Elin!
You are welcome here. I look forward to seeing photos of your opals, even if opals are not my own specialty.

Re: Gender (Dis)parity in the Diamond World

Guys are going to continue to wear what appeals to women (and vice versa). Same drab styles for dressy wear, not much changed for the past century. We men are basically timid conformists - few are going to risk ridicule of other males, let alone other females, unless they have strong backing (or eve...

Re: Get Into Mineral Collecting With This New Subscription Service

I suspect that there is indeed a market for this. Even were the prices lower, I'd rather go to rock and gem shows and pick out my own specimens at several times less the cost. I have spent much more on specimens, but the current offerings are all fairly common, if pretty, mineral types. Still, I thi...

I'm surprised they're going to sell this one, but since they are I have to post it for you in case anyone would like to buy it for me. And here I'd just blown my last $51 million of mad money on a handful of magic beans. Sure enough, they grew, but when I climbed up to grab the goose at the top, tu...

I agree. The old stuff was spectacular, and these are also great pieces. That ring/pendant piece particularly caught my eye.

Re: GEOLOGY 101: Columnar Basalt

Nick's videos are always interesting! Lots of columnar basalt around here (the eastern half of Oregon and Washington was buried under layers of basalt up to a mile thick. Some on private land have been mining columns for use in landscaping, etc. The stuff is heavy, so retrieving and transport cost m...
